Gilfach Goch Council Candidate Announced

The Welsh Liberal Democrats have selected Gerald Francis as their candidate for Gilfach Goch for the council elections in May.

Gerald will be known to many local residents as the former Chair of the Green Valley Action Group. GVAG was set up to oppose the growing encroachment of wind turbines in the Gilfach Goch area and Gerald played a very active part in the campaign against the expansion of the Fforch Nest site.

Having won the battle locally and successfully persuaded RCT Councillors to turn down the application, Gerald was disappointed when the announcement was made in December that the Assembly Planning Inspector has decided to overturn RCT's decision and allow the development.

"I am sure that most people will agree that, although renewable energy is highly desirable, it should not be at the cost of people's quality of life and possibly their health.

Having battled long and hard against this development, and won support from local politicians of all parties, it is very disappointing that our views seem to have been overlooked by the Inspector."
