Credit Where It is Due

January 29, 2010 4:35 PM

Not only does South Wales Police have a new Chief Constable, but the Pontypridd division has a new Chief Inspector who certainly appears to have made a promising start.

Cllr Mike Powell attended a meeting with Chief Inspector Huw Lewis on 26th January where he raised concerns about the lack of a visible Police presence in Pontypridd town centre. He was amazed at the swiftness of the response.

"Chief Inspector Lewis assured me that he would take on board the concerns which have been expressed to me by many residents in the area and do his best to address the problems.

"I was astounded two days later on a visit to the town centre to come across not only a beat officer but also two mounted police. The feedback from shoppers was very positive."

Cllr Powell, who is the Welsh Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Pontypridd, added

"When things go wrong or promises are broken there is always an endless line of people wiling to criticise. They don't always come forward to heap on the praise when things go right.

"So I for one would like to say a big thank you to Chief Inspector Lewis and his team, and hope that this is just the start of improvements in the amount of visible policing in the area."
