Welsh Liberal Democrat Phil Price is the new Pontypridd Town Councillor for the Town ward following a by election on 18th February which saw Labour beaten into second place.
The election, which was caused by the resignation of a Plaid Cymru Councillor, saw Plaid finish in a poor third place.
It is the first time Phil, a long time supporter and member of the Party, had stood for election
"I thought it was about time I put my head above the parapet and became more involved. It is easy for us all to complain that things don't get done, but unless we are prepared to actively do something about it then nothing will change.
I have always been an outspoken character, and now that I have semi retired and work only part time I wanted to become more involved.
I intend to be a visible presence around the ward, and a regular attendee at Pact meetings which I think are important in involving the community in working with the authorities to solve its own problems."
Welsh Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate Mike Powell congratulated Phil and said he will be an excellent addition to a growing Town Council team.
"We now have five Councillors on the Pontypridd Town Council having won two by elections and had another member defect from Plaid.
The mood in the Pontypridd constituency is definitely changing; people are fed up of the Labour old guard and are looking for fresh faces and ideas. This is a huge boost to us ahead of the General Election."
There was a fourth candidate in the contest, Mark Beech of the Monster Raving Loony Party. Bizarrely he was supported by Labour Town Councillor Jonathan Bishop who was a counting agent for him.
