Rhondda Cynon Taff Council have a very good record with regard to recycling for which they are to be congratulated - we all need to do our bit to reduce our carbon footprint.
However, Russell Robert's recycling of the same old jaded lines, and indeed misinformation, is getting a bit boring.
Yet again he boasts of a budget for the coming year which will protect jobs and services - something I am sure all of us want, but should he be using council press officers to make blatant political statements? Is that what taxpayers money should be paying for?
In the press release he talks of 'an increase of only 0.42%, as a result of cuts imposed on Welsh Public Services by the UK Government.' This is wrong. It is, as Russell well knows, the Welsh Labour Government that sets the budget for Local Government. They choose how to spend the money that comes down from Westminster. They chose - albeit with agreement from others - not to use money from Westminster to allow Councils to freeze Council tax.
He says that other Councils may set a lower Council tax than the 2.5% proposed in RCT but they will have to cut jobs and services. Really? He insists that there have been no job losses in RCT but this is because he has hidden them behind voluntary redundancy packages that have cost us millions in huge payouts on top of generous pensions.
Three times in one press release there are attacks on the UK Government. The press / public relations department in RCT costs the taxpayer over £1 million in wages alone. For what? Political back up to the Labour party?
Maybe they could scrap that and cut the Council tax rise by half.
