Paddling pool saga rolls on

December 31, 2012 3:30 PM

Well we enter the new year with not a lot of good news to report with regard to the paddling pool in Ynysangharad Park I'm afraid.

The Labour Council reneged on their pre-election promise to keep the paddling pool and since then have steadfastly refused to listen to the public and are determined to press ahead and remove the facility. I hope the Pontypridd Labour Councillors in particular who are supposed to represent the people who elected them are pleased with themselves. They will have no trouble living with their consciences as they obviously have none.

The Council were originally told by CADW that they needed listed building consent to remove the paddling pool. That ruling has now been reversed - well we couldn't expect their Labour mates in the Welsh Government to rule against the Council now could we.

The Pontypridd MP and AM have gone strangely quiet. Well, to be honest Mick Antoniw AM never had much to say anyway - as usual on any issues in his constituency. Owen Smith MP did make some initial murmurs about how the Council could have consulted better but then backtracked and announced that people were letting emotion get in the way of progress.

There remains one obstacle to the Council's plans at the moment - finance. They have not as yet got the bulk of the funding they need to proceed. The Welsh European Funding Office has yet to decide on their grant application.

We - and all those residents who are against this proposal - will not give up, and we will certainly make sure that the arrogance and ignorance displayed by those currently in power in RCT will not be forgotten.
