Mice work if you can get it!

Rhondda Cynon Taff Council made headlines around the world recently with the news that it was to spend £190,000 on bridges for dormice to cross the new Church Village by pass.

Now nobody could accuse the Welsh Lib Dems of not caring for the environment, and we know that there are European regulations in force that mean the dormouse has to be protected. But £190K??

It is not the first example of such bridges being built - Newport has some, but theirs cost a mere £22K. Nothing but the best for the dormouse population of Pontypridd obviously.

The money came from a transport grant courtesy of the Labour - Plaid Assembly Government. We think that the average resident will find it a bit hard to swallow that money can be found for things like this, and for the art works that have been springing up all over the place but not for essentials.

Why not let us know what you think? A reasonable expense or a bridge too far?
