What residents say about the paddling pool plans

October 10, 2012 12:27 AM

Just some of the comments made by residents present at the referendum meeting on 8th October.

"People want the spontaneity of going to the park like they used to, and if they have 3 or 4 children it costs nothing."

"We would like to see the pool covered, we are the only town in RCT without a covered pool. Why should the citizens and ratepayers of Pontypridd be treated any differently."

"To hope an open air Lido open for three and a half month a year will attract economic development is pie in the sky. If all you are getting is what you have there then you may as well keep it as it is not good enough for the people of Pontypridd."

"How will the new Lido be any different from what we had before, we had a café then, and changing rooms but we also had our paddling pool."

"It is ok for the Council to make difficult decisions as long as they explain why. If the Council had consulted properly then we wouldn't be here now."

"I remember the consultation from 2008 but nobody said they could get rid of the paddling pool. The kids won't get anything like the facility they have now."

"I am a swimmer and have been waiting years for a pool in Ponty. I took part in the consultation but consultation form what we have just heard seems to be partaking in a decision that has already been made. I look forward to the Lido but we do need the paddling pool."

"The word heritage has been bandied about a lot, but it seems it has more to do with getting grants. You only have to walk through the park to see what real heritage is about. This is real heritage not thousands spent on artworks or paving."

"I am confused about the Heritage Lottery Funding, you are telling us the funding depends on the pool being removed but they say it makes no difference."

"At the moment one adult can take three or four children to the paddling pool. The rule in the leisure centres is one adult per child……Surely we should look at giving choice."

"The park is for Ponty people, we are sick to death of being passed over. There is b****r all to come to Ponty for. We don't want a visitor area all we want is a roof."

"I thought I lived in a democracy where the local council was elected to represent our views. We are not asking for the earth we are asking to keep our paddling pool and give us a pool with a roof. If you don't future generations will be appalled."
