Candidate for Rhondda Ward Town Council by election announced.

March 23, 2013 6:02 PM

Following the sad news of the death of Town Councillor Mrs Pam Harper, who had represented the Rhondda ward on Pontypridd Town Council for many years, an election will be held shortly to select her replacement. A date has not yet been set but it is expected to be in May.

The Welsh Liberal Democrats have chosen Mrs Amanda Jones as their candidate. Amanda is new to the world of local politics, but has been involved in numerous community campaigns in recent years. Her most recent campaign has been fought alongside fellow members of the SOS Ponty Paddling Pool group.

Welsh Liberal Democrat County Councillor Mike Powell says Amanda would make an excellent Town Councillor.

"Having worked with her on the on-going campaign to retain the paddling pool in Ynysangharad Park I have been impressed with her tenacity. She is not afraid to speak her mind and stand up for both her own beliefs and the wider community. She would be a breath of fresh air on the Town Council and an excellent representative for the people of this ward."

Amanda only recently joined the Party having worked alongside Cllr Powell and campaign manager Karen Roberts on the paddling pool campaign for several months. She said

"The Welsh Liberal Democrats are the only ones who have stood up and fought alongside residents to keep the paddling pool. They are not afraid to speak up for what they believe in, and not afraid to talk to people and take their views on board. It is why I joined the Party in February and why I am pleased to be standing under a Welsh Liberal Democrat banner."
