Hospital consultation closes - our responses

July 19, 2013 4:24 PM

The South Wales Programme consultation on reconfiguration of certain critical care services draws to an end today. Thousands of responses have been received, many of those from residents of RCT in support of retaining services at the Royal Glamorgan.

The campaign driven by staff and residents has been excellent and if it were not for them then many people would remain unaware of the proposals. There will now be a wait whilst the responses are collated and the individual Health Boards and Community Health Councils then consider the results. If the Health Boards and Community Health Councils cannot reach agreement then the decision will transfer to the Welsh Labour Government.

We have been doing our bit, collecting signatures, putting out press comment and letters trying to raise awareness, and covering the issue fully on our website and Facebook pages.

Our members have been encouraged to put in individual responses and of course as a local party RCT Welsh Liberal Democrats has made a submission.

If you want to read what we have said then the official RCT WLD submission is here. Separate responses have also gone in from Cllr Mike Powell and from Campaign Manager Karen Roberts.

We can only hope that the weight of public opinion will give the board cause for thought and they will reject their initial 'best fit' option in favour of retaining services at the Royal Glamorgan.
