Pontypridd Town Council by election in Treforest - Welsh Lib Dems announce candidate

September 28, 2013 1:00 PM

A by election has been called to elect a new Treforest representative to Pontypridd Town Council.

Amanda Jones has been selected as the Welsh Liberal Democrat candidate.

Amanda became involved in local politics after becoming active in the campaign to save Pontypridd paddling pool.

"I was, and still am, so angry at the way in which the Labour run County Council ignored the views of residents, and couldn't believe that their colleagues on the Town Council kept quiet on the matter.

"These people are supposed to represent us, but the only ones who appeared to be doing anything about that and many other issues were Cllr Mike Powell and the Welsh Liberal Democrats.

I decided there was no point sitting back and criticising unless I was prepared to get involved myself "

Local businessman John Bell, who is the former County Councillor for Treforest, says that Amanda would make an excellent representative for the area.

"She is full of enthusiasm and keen to stir up some action within the Town council.Treforest needs someone with new ideas and the

energy and commitment to get things done."

The by election has been triggered by the resignation of one of the members who was elected unopposed last year - the Treforest ward is represented by three Town Councillors. The election will take place on Thursday 24th October
