‘Unforeseen circumstances’ delay Cabinet webcast

Today RCT Council was to make its first webcast and live stream the Cabinet meeting starting at 4pm.

The broadcasting for the meeting came as a climb down after the Labour party promised in their Council manifesto to broadcast all Council meetings. After pressure from the Welsh Liberal Democrats, and indeed their backing for the idea from their own colleagues in the Welsh Government, the Cabinet eventually decided that they would not be delivering on that promise but instead do a trial run and broadcast today's Cabinet meeting.

Shortly before the meeting was due to start a message was sent out to Councillors saying that they could not broadcast the meeting due to 'unforeseen circumstances'

A cynical mind may think that amongst the unforeseen circumstances was the fact that a number of protestors against the recently announced proposed cuts are due to be at the meeting. This follows on from the meeting last week which saw a packed public gallery turn the heat up on the Cabinet.

It may of course be down to perfectly legitimate reasons - the bad weather for instance? But then again this is RCT…
