RCT Welsh Lib Dem response to proposed changes to Arts & Cultural Services

There seems to be absolutely no rhyme or reason behind the decision to close the Muni.

Whilst we are certainly not suggesting that the Council should look to close the other two in preference to the Muni then there should be a degree of equality.

It is disgraceful that this Council yet again shows such scant regard for what should be the County Town of RCT.

There is again no evidence that the Council has looked for alternative solutions - although there are plenty of rumours flying around of possible take overs by a private entertainment company. This would not be a bad thing, but why is there no indication that it is being thought of?

In the same vein why are the Cabinet and Officers not looking to offload the other two theatres to not for profit companies? Are Councils the best organisations to be running theatres? We would say probably not given the lack of business sense that has been displayed. Community enterprises may be able to access more funding and run more efficiently
