School plans far from impressive at first glance

September 24, 2014 2:32 PM

Details are to be announced tomorrow of plans to radically revamp education within schools in the Rhondda and Taff Ely.

Welsh Liberal Democrat Councillor Mike Powell says he is far from impressed by the scant details released so far.

"The article splashed all over the local press talks of full consultation yet as I understand it this has been put in the public domain before Headteachers have been made aware of any of it.

"One of the first proposals by Mr Bradshaw when he was made Director of Education was to get rid of sixth forms from all RCT schools and replace them with three tertiary colleges. That idea was stopped in its tracks when the Welsh Government refused to back it. It now seems that he is determined to get his way.

"Parents in Llantrisant will be particularly angered by the talk of a new expanded school at Y Pant having been told their children will in future have to go to Bryncelynnog.

"I look forward to reading the report in full and seeing what rationale can possible be behind these proposals."
