Aberllechau Primary to close despite last minute call in hope.

December 8, 2014 4:22 PM

The final hopes of keeping Aberllechau Primary School open were dashed today when the Cabinet decided that the concerns expressed by local councillors who "called - in" the decision for further scrutiny were not sufficient for them to reverse their decision.

In a surprise move last Wednesday the education scrutiny committee voted in favour of sending the decision back to Cabinet for a rethink. However, the Cabinet, as usual, were not for turning and reaffirmed their previous decision to close the school.

Anyone expecting news from the Council's PR department would have been disappointed, however.

There was one tweet, although that was far from clear regarding what had actually happened. It read:

"Having considered the report (http://ow.ly/FwHFO ), the recommendations in it have been approved by Cabinet. The meeting has now closed."

Confusing because the recommendations actually read:

It is recommended that Cabinet:-

Now people reading the tweet alongside the recommendation to "reconsider" may be forgiven for thinking that the Cabinet had a rethink and went against its original decision. Maybe the highly paid Head of PR should review some of the things coming out of his department and ensure that communication is clearer.
