Rhondda needs a Welsh Lib Dem representative - George Summers

April 25, 2015 11:00 AM

I have been a Liberal Democrat campaigner for many years and I am thrilled to have been chosen to stand to represent you as the MP for the Rhondda. I believe that the principles and policies of the Liberal Democrats will best address the issues in the Rhondda today.

I am proud of the things that we have achieved in government. In particular the pupil premium which gave extra money to schools based on the number of free school meals pupils. This was replicated by colleagues at the Assembly who made a budget deal which put more than £7million extra into schools in RCT this year. This money ensures that support can be given to those who need it most to enable every child to have the best start in life.

We need to continue the good work we have started in government by raising the personal tax allowance to £12,500, cutting tax bills by

another £400 each year for low and middle earners. We are committed to investing £8billion in the National Health Service in England which will put millions more into the Welsh Government coffers which we would hope would be spent improving the NHS here.

As a mother of a three year old child, and a trained primary school teacher, education is incredibly important to me. The Liberal Democrats will protect education budgets, again meaning more money comes into Wales via the block grant.

I work part time as an Admin Assistant at Cardiff University and, like us all, struggle to maintain a good work-life balance. I understand the strains that can be put on our everyday lives, but feel that it is important to stand for something I believe in, which is why I would be an ideal representative for the Rhondda in parliament
