Conservative pledge to protect health service but not in RCT

January 9, 2016 10:30 AM

Do the Conservatives actually know where RCT is?

May 2016 sees the next set of Assembly elections and the Conservatives are getting into campaign mode big time.

Despite the portrayal of this area as solid red, the Conservatives actually do have a reasonable base line vote in Rhondda Cynon Taff, especially in the Pontypridd constituency. They certainly did better than is there last May and they currently have two regional Assembly Members representing the South Wales Central area of which we are part, although most people would be hard pressed to name them.

They are David Melding and Welsh Conservative leader Andrew R T Davies. Neither of them appear to have done anything at all in this area nor even acknowledged our existence.

Take for example their total lack of interest in our hospital services. This week the Welsh Conservatives have announced their plans for the NHS should they be in power in Wales after May. They are promising

Now leaving aside that fact that some of these may be impractical and not represent best use of resources, the question has to be asked where were the Tories when the South Wales Programme reorganisation was being consulted upon and acted on? This is the reorganisation which will see the downgrading of A&E at the Royal Glamorgan and the removal of the special care baby unit, consultant led maternity and in patient paediatrics...

There was no outcry from them then, in fact there was no Conservative response to the consultation at all. Neither of the AMs turned up at any of the protests, not in fact did we hear form the only Conservative Councillor in RCT who is now looking for your vote in Pontypridd at the Assembly election.

If they want your votes then the least they can do is try to earn it.
