Luisa Martin-Thomas, Senior Assistant Headteacher at Tonypandy Community College has won a prestigious Pearson Teaching Award Marking her as one of the best in the business .

The Pearson Teaching Awards are an annual celebration of exceptional teachers, created to recognize the life-changing impact an inspirational teacher can have on the lives of the young people they teach. Selected from thousands of nominations, Luisa is one of just 10 winners who will be celebrated on Thank a Teacher Day.

Ms Martin-Thomas will travel to London in October to receive her Silver Award for Teacher of the year in a Secondary School. There she will join fellow Silver Award winners at the UK final and find out which of them has won one of just 11 Gold Plato Awards, the UK's "Oscars for Teachers".

Karen Roberts, Vice Chair of Governors at Tonypandy Community College said

"I am delighted for Luisa and for the College. We have not had an easy time in recent years with staff working extremely hard to recover from an inspection which put us into special measures and turning the College around.

"Governors have always had faith in the staff and an award such as this is proof of the high standards that do exist there. Luisa is a valued member of staff and has always brought a huge amount of enthusiasm to her role."
