Lest we forget

November 11, 2018 10:00 AM

Went the day well?

We died and never knew.

But, well or ill,

Freedom, we died for you.

A hundred years ago the First World War ended. The "Great War" "The war to end all wars."

If only that were true. How many have died since in needless wars created and fuelled by hate or greed, by a sense of entitlement or a refusal to see another's point of view, by politics or religion, or one man's obsession.

And still the hatred and the distrust and the inability to accept another's point of view or to just live and let live permeates our society and pits neighbour against neighbour, religion against religion, country against country.

The war to end all wars? If only that were true.

Lest we forget.
