What next for the Muni?

February 5, 2019 10:30 AM

Yesterday was the closing day for "expressions of interest" for groups looking to take over the running of the Muni in Pontypridd and reopen the venue which closed just before Christmas when the group previously running it went bankrupt.

It is understood that several groups have applied and now await a decision on whether they will be taken through to the next stage. If they are then they will need to produce a detailed business plan outlining exactly how they intend to reinvigorate the venue and make it a success.

We only hope that this time a much more in depth look will be taken at the plans submitted and the people behind them. The last committee, put together with much fanfare by the Pontypridd MP Owen Smith, appeared to consist of a group of people who had little knowledge of the arts and theatre and furthermore failed completely to keep an eye on the finances of the business.

One of the questions on the expression of interest form this time asks whether there are any links to the previous group. Hopefully this is so that anyone with a previous interest can be ruled out from running this venue into the ground again.
